MISSION STATEMENT
NIMIA was established in 2000 by and for
medical interpreters and translators in the state of Indiana whose
mission is to promote the recognition and advancement of medical
interpretation and translation as professions. This organization is
open to anyone interested in promoting professionalism in the field
of medical interpreting. The member does not necessarily need to be
an interpreter or translator to join.

NIMIA will pursue its mission with the
following objectives:
- To promote the recognition and advancement
of translation and interpretation as professions in the state of
Indiana
- To promote high standards of professional
ethics and business practices for professionals in the translation
and interpretation fields
- To advocate for the rights and interests of
professional translators and interpreters
- To support certification, education,
training and professional development opportunities for
translators and interpreters
- To provide an open forum in which
translators and interpreters and those in allied fields can
network and discuss common objectives and issues of mutual
interest
- To seek to educate the public and influence
state policy as it applies to the professions of translation and
interpretation
