NIMIA was created to:

v     Foster formal training and education of interpreters by promoting and establishing a core curriculum for medical interpreting

v     Develop performance and evaluation criteria (standards of practice)

v     Promote recognition of competency through credentialing by certification

v     Disseminate information

v     Demonstrate organizational strength and presence
